- Sacred armor of Antiriad, the -
|
|
It's a nice day when Tal
and his friends are riding their horses when suddenly out of the air come
strange flying devices. They start hurling bolts of light at the people
and killing them! After going into hiding Tal speaks with the elders and
they have a plan. Somewhere near is the sacred antiriad armor and it has
the power to stop the invaders. Being the bravest and strongest warrior
Tal is selected to find the armor and stop the invaders.
The above story is told through a comic that was packaged with the game,
something not uncommon in those days because of the limitations of the hardware
(we're talking almost 20 years ago so). You start the game at the beginning
of your search for the armor, you have no clothes and are armed only with
throwing stones. Your path is blocked by countless nasty invaders most of
which you can dispatch with a few well placed stones. First it's a matter
of finding the armor and activating it, unfortunately after you try and
move it it says that gravity is preventing it from taking off. You quickly
realize that the armor is no longer complete and you have to find the missing
parts as well. After finding the armor's boots and some energy you are able
to fly using the armor, then is a matter of finding weapons with which to
defend yourself and finally completing the armor and destroying the base
of the invaders.
Antiriad can be an very difficult game because you have to do some precise
positioning and only get 5 lives. Each time you are hit you loose energy
and after 5 hits you loose a life, unfortunately there is no energy indicator
when you are not in the armor. Using the armor makes life a bit easier but
later inside the enemy base things become much more difficult again. I was
never able to complete it when I first owned this game but now I was finally
able to finish it thanks to the wonder of emulation. This game is seriously
challenging so if you enjoy that type of thing I can recommend it despite
it being a bit standard action game.

This game was released three different systems here are some notes:
| Amstrad
CPC |
Released in
1986.
The game includes two trainers. The graphics are better than the others
especially the intro screen but it suffers from slowdown a lot. |
| C64 |
Released in
1986.
Game has been tested and completed with CCS64 V2.0 win.
The game includes a trainer but it completely takes the challenge out of
the game. |
| ZX
Spectrum |
Released in
1986.
When you walk past an object your character takes on the color of that object,
it's a bit lame but gameplay is still there. |
