- Ooze: Creepy nites -

Ooze is an interactive fiction title with added still graphics in some places. It puts you in the shoes of a man who has just inherited a house called Carfax Abbey from you uncle. On your way there you ask for directions but instead you are warned to keep away from the house as it is not safe. You press on and arrive at the house but can you find out what exactly is going on and put an end to it so you can clame your inheritence?

The story is pretty standard but there are some unsual things about the game. The interface is your basic text stuff but there are picture representing certain areas when you move about, these are not needed though and you can scroll them away if you want. Another is that you actually have to take care of your condition as you have courage, charisma, health and hitpoints. Some actions will increase them while others lower them, if they are too low you cannot complete some sections and you have to especially have to take care of your courage. The object of the game is to befriend the ghosts that haunt Carfax Abbey and finally to destroy the demon ooze who has taken over the place.

I was really looking forward to this game back when it was released but I had some mixed feelings about it. The pictures don't really influence the game but they are still loaded even though you can disable them which is a bit annoying. The text describing everything tend to be on the long side with a lot of irrelevant information so you will have to do a lot of reading. The same goes for objects many of which aren't needed to complete the game but which you can pick up anyway, this doesn't have to a bad thing though for everyone. There are some nice touches like sound effects for a squeeky door and laughter at some proper moments to increase the tension. Overal the game isn't bad but it could have been better.

Overal rating: 7/10

Ooze: Creepy nites was released for several different systems here are some notes:
Amiga Released in 1989.
This is the original as far as I know and the sound effects make this one the top choice.
Atari ST Released in 1989.
Though basically the same as the amiga version it uses a really weird streched resolution which make the graphics look weird.
DOS Released in 1989.
There is version with graphics but they are not included in this one. You can see it by starting the game with OOZE G and there will be an intro screen but after that is asks for disk 2 which I don't have.
Others This version is not available.
Apparently is was released for the C64 as well but I'm not sure about that as I have never seen it.
